In 1968, Carol began teaching in St. Paul at Marshall Junior High in the Core program. She later taught English and history at Humboldt, Washington Junior High and Como Park Senior High. Carol headed the Advanced Placement (AP) program at Como Park Senior High and taught AP European History until she retired in 2000.

Carol received the Minnesota Teacher of Excellence Award in 1986. From 1987 to 1993, she served as chair of the St. Paul Federation of Teacher's Bargaining Team. She also served on the union's executive board and chaired the Local 28 Scholarship Trust for many years.

In 1988, Carol was first elected as a trustee on the St. Paul Teacher's Retirement Fund Association. She served twelve years as the Committee on Nine chairperson and was the vice president of the board of trustees. From 2002 to 2004, Carol was elected as president of the board of trustees.

While in retirement she has enjoyed being a grandmother, reading, traveling, volunteering and substitute teaching in Saint Paul.
