Board of Trustees
Karen has a B.S. in Music Education, K-12, University of Minnesota; M.A. in Elementary Education 1-6, University of Wisconsin- River Falls; M.A. in Reading K-12, University of Wisconsin- River Falls; and Reading Recovery certification from The Ohio State University.
Karen’s career began in Northern Minnesota teaching elementary music K-12. Her tenure with Saint Paul Public Schools started as a music specialist then an elementary classroom teacher and then served as a Teacher on Special Assignment, which included the positions of Reading Recovery teacher leader and district literacy coach.
Karen’s involvement in the Union was extensive. She served as a steward and as an officer on the Executive Board. She served as the Reading Collaborative leader (SPFT) from 1996-2007. In 2007 Karen was the recipient of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers' Mary McGough Distinguished Service Award.
In 2006, Karen was elected to the Board of Trustees and re-elected in 2009. Karen has received a certificate on Governance (2007) and a certificate on Investments (2008) issued by the National Council on Teacher Retirement (NTCR).
