Gene, now retired, was a mathematics teacher at Central High School and St. Paul Technical College for 25 years. He was Secretary-Treasurer of SPTRFA for 17 years and a trustee of the board since 1976. In 1997-98 he was the president of the National Council on Teacher Retirement. During his time of service SPTRFA has seen its assets increase from $259 million to $975 million, benefit formulas improve, early retirement discounts decrease, the vesting period for benefit eligibility reduce to three years and post-retirement increases improve.
